HISTORY: Ralph Northway, from Wyoming, Ohio, owned the Northway Motor Company, a manufacturer of engines. In 1913, he acquired the Ohio Motor Car Company, based in Carthage (now a neighbourhood of Cincinnati), Ohio, and reorganised it under the new name “Crescent Motor Company”. His aim was to produce automobiles under the “Crescent” brand equipped with his own Northway engines.
Two different models were produced under the Crescent name: the Crescent Ohio and the Crescent Royal. The Crescent Ohio was offered in three versions: a 4-cylinder 35 hp model for 5 passengers ($1,275), a 4-cylinder 50 hp model for 5 passengers ($1,750), and a 6-cylinder 60 hp model for 5 passengers ($1,985). In 1914, the Crescent Motor Company was relocated to St. Louis, Missouri, to manufacture a car called the “Superior”.
This example is the only known surviving Crescent worldwide. After spending many years in its native United States, the car was imported into France several decades ago. Around 25 years ago it was purchased by a Spanish collector, who used it in numerous rallies, including several editions of the Barcelona-Sitges event. In recent years, the car has also appeared in various television series productions.
