On-site auction

Starting price 50 €

SOLD

BODYWORK: In good overall condition, restored several years ago and now showing a fair amount of patina. Both the paint and chrome retain their shine, although the car would benefit from detailing and polishing to look perfect. Some chrome trim pieces are missing from the rear section.

MECHANICAL CONDITION: The vehicle has been unused for several years as it was displayed in a museum, so a complete mechanical inspection is recommended before it is driven again.

INTERIOR: Restored and reupholstered in red vinyl, it remains in reasonably good condition.

DOCUMENTS: Registered as a Historic Vehicle in Spain, with all the benefits and exemptions that this status entails.

HISTORY: 1957 was the year everything changed for Ford: for the first time in history, an American car featured an electrically retractable hardtop. With just the push of a button — magic — the metal roof folded neatly into the trunk, revealing all the elegance of a convertible. In 1957, this was Ford Motor Company’s top-of-the-line model. The Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner boasted its revolutionary power-operated retractable hardtop, which folded entirely into the boot. Its stunning exterior is enhanced by a striking red and white colour combination, complemented by the abundant chrome trim that epitomises 1950s American cars.

This particular unit was originally sold in Mexico, where it spent most of its life. It was restored several years ago, so it would now benefit from some light cosmetic attention to achieve perfection. In 2010, it was imported into Spain and registered as a Historic Vehicle. It has not been used on the road in recent years, having been stored on stands and displayed in a museum.
