245 - MERCEDES-BENZ 230 C W123 Cabriolet Bähr

On-site auction

Closing date

Starting price 16.000 €

BODYWORK: This exclusive special convertible was built by the German coachbuilder Gerhard Bähr, who during the 1970s and 1980s produced small series of convertible conversions based on both the two- and four-door Mercedes-Benz W123, as well as the earlier /8 series. The overall design of these two-door W123 Cabriolets was inspired by the “St Tropez” model previously introduced by the British coachbuilder Crayford. Bähr’s conversion involved manufacturing a new sub-chassis to increase structural rigidity, and the cars were sold fully type-approved at the time. Apart from this, the present example is very well preserved in its original condition.

MECHANICS: In very good condition, running properly and with a valid MOT. The previous owner had the cylinder head rebuilt in the year 2000 and it has operated perfectly ever since.

INTERIOR: In good original condition, featuring black leather upholstery.

DOCUMENTS: Original Spanish documentation. Registered in Spain as a Historic Vehicle, with all the exemptions and advantages this entails.

HISTORY: This interesting example was first registered in 1977 in Gran Canaria, and its first owner was the director of the NODO newsreel in Gran Canaria. He kept the car stored in a garage for many years. The current owner purchased it from him in 1999, meaning the car has had only two owners throughout its life. It is an extremely rare model, as very few were built, and in Spain only two examples are known to exist.
