272 - TRIUMPH T20MWD
On-site auction
Starting price 2.000 €
MECHANICS: Single-cylinder, four-stroke engine. Displacement: 199 cc (63 x 64 mm). Transmission: chain-driven. Gearbox: four-speed. Chassis: single cradle tubular steel frame. Front suspension: telescopic fork. Rear suspension: swinging arm with hydraulic shock absorbers.
HISTORY: Designed by the company’s chief engineer, Edward Turner, the first Triumph T20 Tiger Cub was launched in 1954 and derived from the T15 Terrier. It used the same frame and front fork, but instead of the 150 cc engine it was powered by a 200 cc unit. The off-road version featured modified suspension, a high-level exhaust and knobbly tyres. It remained in production until 1968. Triumph supplied the French Army with a small batch of units intended for military use, the T20MWD. They were painted in matte green and equipped with a reinforced rear rack with fittings for leather panniers. It is quite possible that the motorcycle offered in this sale comes from that very batch, given its French registration. It was restored some years ago and presents a good state of preservation.
