HISTORY:This example belonged for many years to the renowned French writer Dominique Lapierre.

Dominique Lapierre (La Rochelle, France, 30 July 1931 - Sainte-Maxime, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, 2 December 2022) was a French author, known worldwide for best-selling works such as The City of Joy, A Thousand Suns, Freedom at Midnight, Five Past Midnight in Bhopal, and Greater Than Love, several of them written in collaboration with Larry Collins. Between 1954 and 1967 he worked as a reporter for Paris Match.

Lapierre purchased a 1938 Dodge convertible from a scrapyard for 30 dollars while he was a student at Lafayette University in 1952. He drove that car on his honeymoon with his first wife from New York to Mexico, on a journey that eventually turned into a year-long trip around the world, as he describes in his book Honeymoon around the Earth, which even includes photographs of the car during the trip.

Forty-five years later, Lapierre found a photograph of a Chrysler almost identical to his honeymoon car in a French classic-car magazine. The car was going to be auctioned in Poitiers, so he travelled there and bought it. He kept it for several years in the garage of his residence in Saint-Tropez, known as “Le Grand Pin”. There, the car rested next to his Rolls-Royce and directly opposite Lapierre’s study:

“I only have to lift my eyes to see, on the other side of the window, these two symbols of the joys of my life, and from this image draw the inspiration for new dreams,”
said the author.

A few years later, a friend of Dominique Lapierre managed to purchase the Chrysler from him and proceeded to restore it completely. He has been the owner ever since and still keeps documents relating to his connection with the famous French writer.
