149 - PACKARD Super Eight Convertible Victoria
On-site auction
Starting price 48.000 €
BODYWORK: Designed at the Briggs Manufacturing Company, Packard’s long-standing body supplier, under the direction of Chief Designer Albert Prance, the new style combined modern, straight-lined aesthetics with a horizontal interpretation of Packard’s traditional grille. The first model to enter production was the Convertible Victoria, a body style that had not appeared in the catalogue since the war.
The new, streamlined Packard received considerable praise in its day. The New York Fashion Academy named it Fashion Car of the Year, and it was awarded at fashion salons in Caracas, Lucerne, Sofia, and Monte Carlo. The so-called “bathtub” Packards provoked mixed reactions at the time, but today they are recognised as some of the most beautiful and pure designs of the years immediately following the Second World War.
MECHANICAL CONDITION: In very good condition, running well, with a valid MOT and ready to be enjoyed.
INTERIOR: In very good condition, restored and featuring an attractive red and cream leather upholstery that blends perfectly with the body colour. Equipped with hydraulic windows and soft top, both in working order.
DOCUMENTATION: Registered as a Historic Vehicle, with all the exemptions and advantages that this status entails.
HISTORY: After the Second World War, America’s independent automobile manufacturers worked tirelessly to outpace the Big Three and bring entirely new designs to market, and Packard was no exception. The first completely new post-war Packard, the Series 22, debuted on 25 July 1947. The convertible Victoria model is widely remembered for its appearance in several scenes of the iconic first instalment of the Back to the Future film series. This attractive example spent much of its life in the United States, where it was fully restored, before being imported to Spain in recent years.
