HISTORY: Initially dedicated to the manufacture of armaments, the Czechoslovak firm Jawa entered the two-wheeled segment in the 1930s, first producing bicycles and shortly afterwards launching its first motorcycle in 1932, equipped with a 175 cc Villiers engine. After the war, Jawa was nationalised by the new political regime and merged with CZ, a manufacturer of more utilitarian motorcycles, subsequently specialising in medium-displacement models. Produced between 1956 and 1960, the Type 356 was quite advanced for its time, featuring a rectangular-section tubular frame and 16-inch wheels that provided good manoeuvrability. Its 175 cc engine with twin exhaust outlets delivered 8 hp at 5,500 rpm, allowing it to reach 90 km/h with a fuel consumption of 3.1 l/100 km. This example displays a very authentic patina — even retaining its original Czechoslovak registration plate — the result of an older yet well-executed restoration that makes it a truly interesting piece for many collectors.
