Starting price 50 €
SOLD
BODYWORK: In original, unrestored but well-preserved condition. The blue paint on most of the bodywork appears to be original; although it has lost some of its shine, it now displays an appealing satin finish that could be preserved. The car retains several period accessories, such as chrome wheel arch trims and protective inserts behind the door handles.
MECHANICAL CONDITION: This vehicle remained in use until 1997, when it passed its last MOT inspection. Since then, it has not been used on the road and will therefore require a full mechanical inspection.
INTERIOR: In original, unrestored condition, well preserved but in need of restoration.
DOCUMENTS: Comes with original Spanish paperwork, permanently de-registered but eligible for reactivation.
HISTORY: This Renault 6 is one of the very first units ever built in Spain by FASA in Valladolid, as confirmed by its December 1969 registration. The model was originally unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 1968, but its launch in Spain did not take place until April 1969, at the 9th Barcelona Motor Show.
The Spanish-built version was fitted with the engine from the Renault 8, which had a larger displacement than its French counterpart but used a 28 mm Zenith carburettor, limiting the output of these early units to just 38 hp. The radiator was mounted further back, directly beside the engine. Other distinctive features of the first series included solid steel wheels without ventilation holes, concealing four drum brakes —later replaced by front discs in subsequent models. The interior of these early cars was also unique, featuring a dashboard with wood-effect inserts and a very thin steering wheel.
All these original features are present in this particular unit, which was recently discovered stored in a warehouse after having passed its last MOT inspection around 20 years ago. It retains records of periodic MOT inspections from 1992 and 1996, as well as original handwritten maintenance notes from the period. In 2000, the car was officially de-registered, and it has remained unused ever since. Due to its long period of inactivity, it has been preserved in completely original, unrestored condition —with patina, but well kept and without any modifications from its factory appearance. Quite possibly, the oldest surviving FASA-built Renault 6 in existence.
