129 - CHEVROLET Bel-Air Cabriolet
On-site auction
Starting price 48.000 €
BODYWORK: Completely disassembled and restored approximately 30 years ago, this car has been exceptionally well preserved. The underbody is clean, and the chrome retains all its shine. As the restoration was carried out some years ago, the vehicle now shows a light patina that lends it a wonderful air of authenticity. It is finished in its original colours, “India Ivory” and “Matador Red.” The paintwork is of excellent quality, the chrome is bright, the trim is flawless, and the panel fit is superb, resulting in a very solid body.
MECHANICAL CONDITION: Equipped with its original V8 engine featuring the optional period “Power Pack” with a four-barrel carburettor, delivering 205 hp. The engine runs beautifully and produces a delightful sound. It retains its original manual transmission. The tyres were recently replaced and have seen very little use.
INTERIOR: The interior was also completely restored with great attention to detail. It features an ivory vinyl convertible top and a red and ivory vinyl cabin trimmed in the correct period pattern. The soft top is power-operated and functions perfectly.
DOCUMENTS: The car comes with original Spanish registration papers and is registered as a Historic Vehicle, benefiting from all the associated exemptions and privileges.
HISTORY: The Bel Air represented the top of Chevrolet’s range in 1956. Only 41,268 units of the Convertible version were built that year. This particular example was discovered by its last owner in a scrapyard near Madrid in the late 1980s. Despite its poor condition, he purchased the car and undertook a full restoration that spanned several years. No expense was spared, with a vast number of parts imported from the United States —a challenging task at the time.
Since its completion in the early 1990s, the car has taken part in countless rallies across Spain and Portugal, always travelling under its own power, no matter the distance. This car stands as a testament to the passion and meticulous care of its last owner, who maintained it diligently and kept it in perfect running order. A photographic dossier documenting the restoration is included, and this very car was featured on the cover of the renowned magazine Motor Clásico.
