253 - LOTUS Elan S4 S/E Cabriolet

On-site auction

Closing date

Starting price 33.000 €

BODYWORK: Restored some years ago by its former owner, Jaime Lozoya Florit, founder of the engineering firm Rücker Lypsa. In this company, which specialised in prototype development, a series of carbon fibre reinforcements were applied to the bodywork, a VIP treatment that would have been extremely expensive for any normal customer, completely invisible as the car was subsequently repainted. It is currently in very good condition, finished in the beautiful and typical British Racing Green of the period.

MECHANICS: The specialist company Cars by Symon was responsible for the mechanical restoration. Two SU H6 carburettors were installed to replace the original but irrecoverable Strombergs, along with a larger radiator, electronic ignition, and rear homokinetic joints replacing the fragile rubber couplings. Later, under its most recent owner, the car underwent a thorough mechanical overhaul and received several upgrades (alternator, starter motor, aluminium radiator, electric fan), as well as the installation of a five-speed gearbox from a Lotus Elan Sprint. It now runs perfectly and is ready to be enjoyed.

INTERIOR: Fully restored according to original specifications and in excellent condition.

DOCUMENTS: It has original Spanish documentation and is registered as a Historic Vehicle, with all the exemptions and advantages that this status entails.

HISTORY: The Elan was a technologically advanced car compared with its rivals, featuring a twin overhead cam engine, fully independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and rack-and-pinion steering. Its superb chassis and low weight provided handling far superior to most cars of its era. Exceptionally agile on winding roads, it also maintained composure at high speed and reacted predictably when driven to its limits.

When production ceased in the mid-1970s, it remained a benchmark sports car. Its remarkable production figures for such a model (12,000 units) and its current high standing among collectors confirm its significance. This particular example was first registered in Barcelona in 1969 and still retains its original registration. It underwent a full restoration some years ago and remains in magnificent condition, ready to be enjoyed.
